Greetings Parents and Students. Please take a moment to read the following Letter from our Principal Mr. Knowlton
March 26, 2020
Dear Parents and Students of Jay High School,
I hope this letter finds you doing well and minimally effected by the Covid-19 virus. We understand that this is an unusual time we are experiencing. Jay High School is here to provide any support you need during these difficult times.
Starting Monday, March 30, our teachers and staff will be returning to commence with providing your child with online enrichment services. At the time that I am writing this letter we are planning for the period of March 30 through April 15. We do not have any answers at this time as to what will come after April 15. Our plan for these two plus weeks will be as followed:
Teachers return and work to provide access through a service called Canvas.
No later than April 2, students who have access to ClassLink at home will be able to engage with their teachers through Canvas. Canvas will be an app on ClassLink, and students will be able to participate in class activities through this program.
If your child does not have internet access or does not have a device to access ClassLink, JHS will have enrichment packets available for all classes. If you do not have access to the internet or a device, please contact the school so we can get a class packet to your child.
We will be making “well-check” calls to every family next week to find out how we can help your family during this time.
Teachers will be available to help students 6 hours per day. They will be working remotely from home and will establish the hours they will be available for students online.
Students who receive Exceptional Student Education services (ESE) will be receiving a phone call from your teacher of record next week (March 30-April 3). After that you should receive weekly calls from your ESE Inclusion teacher checking in with you.
As I have said, we do not know how long we will continue to deliver academic enrichment through this method. This is new to us, as well as it is for you, and we will provide our best effort during this trying time.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions. We will be answering the phones from 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Stay safe and remember, together we will get through this stronger.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that school districts provide parents with an annual state, district, and school status reports to include but not limited to the following: student achievement, accountability and subgroup data.
Florida’s EDStats tool provides a robust data reporting portal that FDOE will use to provide information to parents and the public about the performance of subgroups in the school grades system and for many other performance metrics (https://edstats.fldoe.org). In addition, the FDOE uses data to produce readily accessible school and district report cards, providing transparent information to all stakeholders. The district report card specifically reports on progress toward transitioning students from one level (elementary, middle, high) to the next and also reports graduation data. (https://edudata.fldoe.org/index.html).
JHS Safety Announcement: The district has recently installed an access control door lock and camera system at our front entrance. Effective January 7, 2019, the front entrance will no longer be open during the school day. When you approach the front entrance, you will need to push a button located to the right side of the entryway next to the mounted camera. You will be greeted by a school employee, asked to present a photo ID to the camera, and state the purpose of your visit. Once approved, the door will then be unlocked, and you will be permitted access into the building. We ask for your patience and understanding concerning this new protocol, as our number one goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff members at our school. If you have any questions, please call the school.
