Principal's Letter to Students:
Royals, I hope this note finds you and your family well. This is a difficult time for everyone. I know this is not how you envisioned the last quarter of your school year to be like. I believe you have heard of the “Greatest Generation”. If not, this group of people, ones who were alive during World War II, went through a period when they came out of a depression and then were thrust into the war to end all wars. That happened over a span of 10-12 years. You have gone from a time of great prosperity (based on the stock market) in February to very ambiguous time in just two months. Life as you knew it has changed drastically. If you are feeling a little uncertain that is to be expected. You need to know that we, Jay High School, are here for you! What is Jay High School? JHS is your norm. It is what you would consider your known universe. This is where you feel safe, normal, and welcome. The people you see daily, the teachers and staff you contact in your day to day routine are still here for you. Instead of making contact in the halls or interacting in the classroom, they are now doing the same virtually. The people who cared about you every day, still do, just from a far. Teachers are reaching out to you in ways that are not normal for them; but are doing so because they care about you and your well-being. Your teachers are working hard for you every day. They want you to have success in your future. If you have read this far, here it is, the main point, we love you! We chose this profession because we wanted to serve and make a difference. We serve you and your needs, so please, when your teachers reach out to you have that discussion with them. Let them know how you are doing. It may have nothing to do with academics; let them know how your day is and what you need. You may be surprised at what your teacher can do.
ATTENTION STUDENTS: FLVS and SR Online classes resumed after Spring Break on Monday, March 16. Please be sure to keep up with your online classes. For those without Internet access, we are working with the online community to implement a plan.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that school districts provide parents with an annual state, district, and school status reports to include but not limited to the following: student achievement, accountability and subgroup data.
Florida’s EDStats tool provides a robust data reporting portal that FDOE will use to provide information to parents and the public about the performance of subgroups in the school grades system and for many other performance metrics (https://edstats.fldoe.org). In addition, the FDOE uses data to produce readily accessible school and district report cards, providing transparent information to all stakeholders. The district report card specifically reports on progress toward transitioning students from one level (elementary, middle, high) to the next and also reports graduation data. (https://edudata.fldoe.org/index.html).
JHS Safety Announcement: The district has recently installed an access control door lock and camera system at our front entrance. Effective January 7, 2019, the front entrance will no longer be open during the school day. When you approach the front entrance, you will need to push a button located to the right side of the entryway next to the mounted camera. You will be greeted by a school employee, asked to present a photo ID to the camera, and state the purpose of your visit. Once approved, the door will then be unlocked, and you will be permitted access into the building. We ask for your patience and understanding concerning this new protocol, as our number one goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff members at our school. If you have any questions, please call the school.
